MANILA, Philippines — A South Korean man survived an assassination attempt by unidentified gunmen in Malate, Manila before dawn yesterday.

Bae Jung Hyun, 48, was waiting for a taxi ride in front of Hotel 2016 along Marcelo H. Del Pilar street when two men on a motorcycle arrived and opened fire at around 1:30 a.m., according to Manila Police District (MPD) Station 9 commander Superintendent Robert Domingo.

A hotel staff saw the incident and rushed Bae to the hospital for treatment.

The suspects fled after the attack.

Probers said the suspects used a .45-caliber handgun.

Police said the victim has been frequenting the casino since he arrived in Manila a few days ago.

Authorities said they have yet to establish the motive for the shooting.
