Cebuanos back bus rapid system
MANILA, Philippines — A majority of Cebu City residents support the implementation of the bus rapid system, according to a recent survey of the Social Weather Stations.
The survey, which was commissioned by lawyer Paul Nejudne, showed that at least 72 percent of the 300 respondents agree on the implementation of the mass transit system.
The 23-kilometer project will traverse through Cebu City’s central business district.
Those who support the project said they believe it would ease traffic, organize mass transport and make travel easier and safer.
Seven percent of the respondents who disagree with the project said it would result in congestion as there would be more vehicles on the road.
At least 21 percent of the respondents are undecided.
Partly funded by World Bank, the transport system which was approved by the Aquino administration, is expected to be completed in 2021.
Presidential assistant for the Visayas Michael Diño had earlier said the Duterte government is considering the cancellation of the program.
