Tondo congressmen urge voters: 'Be vigilant'

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The public should be extra vigilant in the forthcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in order to help ensure the holding of a fair, honest, credible, clean and peaceful electoral exercise, two Manila lawmakers said yesterday.

In a statement sent to The STAR, Reps. Carlo Lopez of District 2 and Manny Lopez of District 1 said partisan groups and individuals, especially those in government, should refrain from using government resources, their influence or position to help candidates.

The Tondo lawmakers urged the public to immediately report to authorities information they gather or may know on vote buying, cheating and election-related violence.

They also called on the Commission on Elections, the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies to immediately act on election-related complaints.
