Bataan mall fire rages

Raffy Viray - The Philippine Star

BALANGA, Bataan, Philippines — A fire that broke out at a five-story mall in this city on Tuesday continued to rage yesterday.

The fire, which had affected three floors of Galeria Victoria, remained on fifth alarm despite the arrival of fire trucks from other provinces in Central Luzon. There are only 21 firemen in this city.

Chief Inspector Jaime Robles of the Bureau of Fire Protection said heavy smoke had prevented them from entering the building.

Several firemen were reportedly injured in the blaze.

Arson probers said the fire started at the refrigeration’s electrical panel board near the stockroom of the supermarket.

The fire is said to be the biggest to hit the city.
