MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized P10 million worth of shabu and kush hidden in children’s toys at the FedEx warehouse near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), officials said yesterday.

BOC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña presented 2.06 kilos of shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride and 127.60 grams of kush, a marijuana variant, which he said came in two parcels from California in the United States.

The illegal drugs were hidden in two parcels, one containing a doll and the other toy blocks, that arrived on March 28 and April 18.

One parcel was consigned to Savannah Valdez of Gen. Trias, Cavite and the other is to Emmer Soncruz of Quezon City, Lapeña said.

He said the parcels underwent risk assessment by Customs examiners at the airport and they showed a “suspicious image during x-ray examination.”

“The packages yielded unbranded, colorless crystalline substances as the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force did the initial drug testing which resulted positive for methamphetamine,” Lapena added.

NAIA-BOC district collector Carmelita Talusan said her team remains on alert for all incoming packages that may contain illegal drugs.
