Recall polls: No SC relief for San Juan mayor Gomez
MANILA, Philippines — San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez has failed to secure immediate relief from the Supreme Court (SC) in her bid to stop the recall elections in the city.
In a summer session in Baguio City, SC justices deferred ruling on Gomez’s motion for issuance of a temporary restraining order, seeking to stop the recall polls ordered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The camp of former vice mayor Francis Zamora filed a petition for recall against Gomez in September last year.
The high court opted to seek comments first from the Comelec and the petitioners before deciding on the appeal of Gomez.
“The court required the respondents to comment on the petition within five days from receipt of notice,“ SC spokesman Theodore Te said
In a 52-page petition filed on Friday, Gomez asked the SC to stop the recall elections in San Juan scheduled this month.
