MANILA, Philippines — At least seven “akyat-bahay” or burglary cases were recorded in Metro Manila during the Holy Week, down from 27 cases recorded in the same period last year, an official said yesterday.
Two of the seven cases were reported in posh subdivisions in Novaliches, Quezon City and Parañaque City, where police officers were not allowed to enter and conduct foot patrols, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Oscar Albayalde.
He attributed the reduction in burglaries to the conduct of checkpoint operations, Oplan Sita and police visibility in strategic areas in the metropolis.
“We are everywhere during the occasion but still these criminals managed to sneak in and rob unattended houses,” Albayalde said in an interview.
Albayalde directed police commanders who have jurisdiction over the seven burglaries to solve the cases but did not give a deadline.
