TUGUEGARAO, Philippines — A meat inspector was shot dead as he was performing his duties in a slaughterhouse in Tuao, Cagayan yesterday.

Joseph Pestre, 45, reportedly managed to say the name of the assailant before dying shortly after the incident in Barangay Alabog, according to Chief Inspector Reymund Aisistores, Tuao police chief. 

Police arrested Angel Fernandez, 54, in a follow-up operation at his home in nearby Barangay Alabiao.

Probers recovered six bullet shells for a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Police are eyeing an old grudge as the motive for the killing.
