MANILA, Philippines — A Manila regional trial court (RTC) yesterday ordered the arrest of 10 Aegis Juris fraternity members over the hazing death of University of Santo Tomas (UST) law freshman Horacio “Atio” Castillo III in September last year.

Branch 40 Presiding Judge Alfredo Ampuan said the court found probable cause based on his evaluation of the Department of Justice (DOJ) resolution indicting the respondents.

Among those who were named in the arrest warrant were Mhin Wei Chan, Jose Miguel Salamat, John Robin Ramos, Marcelino Bagtang Jr., Arvin Balag, Ralph Trangia, Axel Munro Hipe, Oliver Onofre, Joshua Joriel Macabali and Hans Matthew Rodrigo.

The DOJ earlier filed charges against 11 members of the fraternity for their alleged involvement in the fatal hazing.

It also filed charges of perjury and obstruction of justice against John Paul Solano.

Last month, UST expelled eight College of Civil Law students tagged in Castillo’s fatal hazing but did not identify them.
