BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — Government security forces seized five sacks containing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and bomb-making paraphernalia in Valencia City, Bukidnon on Saturday.

The IEDs, believed left behind by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas, were found in Purok 5, Barangay Lumbo, according to a joint statement released by Capt. Norman Tagros of the Army’s 88th Infantry Battalion and Senior Inspector Jiselle Ester Lou Longakit of the Bukidnon police.

Aside from 21 grenades, five IEDs and four dynamite sticks, the sacks reportedly contained blasting caps, steel fragments, a fuse, steel and plastic pipes, electrical wires and assorted chemicals.

The explosives were found by a joint team of the police and military deployed to check a report about the presence of two armed men in the village.
