Barangay official dies after fistfight
MANILA, Philippines — A 46-year-old barangay official died after a drunk man punched him in Tondo, Manila before dawn yesterday.
Barangay 152, Zone 14 treasurer Edgardo Maliclic, a resident of Perfecto Street in Gagalangin, died minutes after he was rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, according to Manila Police District homicide investigator Police Officer 3 Dennis Turla.
Michael Angelo Aparicio, the man who punched Maliclic, was arrested in a follow-up operation.
Turla said Aparicio was drinking with his friends at the corner of Gagalangin and Lakadula streets when Maliclic was alerted about a commotion at around 1 a.m.
The victim rushed to the scene and saw Aparicio arguing with his with his partner.
Maliclic tried to pacify Aparicio but the latter challenged him to a fistfight and hit him in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.
Turla said the suspect was charged with homicide at the Manila prosecutor’s office.
