Barangay captain, police informant shot dead
MANILA, Philippines — A barangay chairman and and a police informant were gunned down in Zamboanga del Sur and Ilocos Norte on Monday.
Jerry Geromo, 40, chairman of Barangay Miligan in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, was overseeing workers loading sand on a truck when unidentified men shot him at around 2:15 p.m.
Murphy Barboza, 28, was plying his tricycle along the Paoay-Batac road in Barangay 3 Salbang, Paoay, Ilocos Norte when he was waylaid.
Barboza died while being treated at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, where his passenger Maurine Tabije, 32, remained confined.
Twenty-one bullet shells for an M16 rifle were recovered at the scene.
Senior Inspector Grandeur Tangonan, Paoay police chief, said Barboza was able to identify his killer as drug suspect Dante Bugarin before he died.
In Nueva Ecija on Sunday night, motorcycle-riding men shot dead the secretary of Gov. Czarina Umali while fueling up at a gas station in Barangay Marcos in Talavera.
Mary Anne Hernandez died at the scene. Her husband Carlito was wounded while their two children were unhurt.
In Cagayan, engineer Mark Anthony Fieror was wounded in a gun attack in Barangay San Gabriel, Tuguegarao yesterday morning.
Fieror, a resident of Rizal town, is a son of a police officer in Isabela.
