2 cops shot dead

MANILA, Philippines - Unidentified men shot dead two policemen in Antipolo, Rizal on Wednesday.

Police Officers 2 Ernesto Turalba Jr. of the Baras police station died at the scene while Roberto Reganit of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Rizal police died while being treated at the Antipolo District Hospital.

Initial investigation showed Turalba and Reganit were riding a motorcycle when they were waylaid along Zigzag Road in Lower Masikap, Barangay San Jose at around 8:45 p.m.

“Reganit appeared to have engaged the suspects. He was still holding his service firearm when responding policemen arrived,” said Superintendent Ruben Andiso, Antipolo police chief.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered bullet shells for a caliber .45 pistol at the scene.

Andiso said they are coordinating with establishments near the area to determine if their closed-circuit television cameras caught the incident.
