Security all set for 30th ASEAN Summit in Manila

MANILA, Philippines (Philippine News Agency) — Around 41,000 security personnel and force multipliers are ready to secure the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit on April 26 to 29 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

Director Oscar Albayalde, National Capital Region Police Office chief, said around 26,000 uniformed police officers and soldiers and about 15,000 force multipliers from different government agencies will be deployed for the ASEAN Summit.

The "send-off ceremony" was held on Sunday at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila for all the security and emergency response forces for the ASEAN Summit.

Albayalde assured the public that they are very ready to ensure the safety and security of all the state leaders and their delegates who will attend the summit.

Albayalde also said they have not monitored any threats to the ASEAN Summit.

"Augmentation forces" were also sent from the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

The "no-fly zone" and "no-sail zone" will also be implemented during the duration of the summit.

PNP Public Information Office chief and spokesman Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos said the send-off ceremony was to show the readiness of security forces.

The PNP Highway Patrol Group is also ready to deploy 426 personnel to secure the convoys of visiting heads of state.
