Nigerian runs amuck, Japanese robbed in malls

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A Nigerian man allegedly went wild and a Japanese woman was robbed in separate incidents at two malls in Quezon City since Thursday.

Raphael Omar Oregoy, 23, has been charged with slight physical injuries and alarm and scandal before the city prosecutor’s office.

Bail was set at P2,000 for Oregoy, who is still detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) cell at Camp Karingal.

Oregoy allegedly disrupted the transactions by a cashier at a boutique in a mall in Cubao at around 5 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Two security guards brought a shirtless Oregoy outside. When he tried to go back into the mall, security guard Randy Aluria, 36, stopped him.

He punched Aluria in the face, prompting other guards to detain him and bring him to the Cubao police station. He was later turned over to the CIDU.

Oregoy was allegedly rude to police officers who were questioning him.

“He dared us to shoot him. He was incoherent,” an investigator said in an interview. “I told him to shut his mouth as he is just a visitor in our country.”

Police officers are investigating what triggered Oregoy’s behavior.

Meanwhile, Arima Meguma, 21, reported to the CIDU that she lost P20,000 and 10,000 yen to robbers at a mall along North EDSA on Friday.

She said she was about to enter a restroom when three men bumped her at around 9:30 p.m.

When the men left, Meguma said she checked her bag and found her money was missing. When she could no longer find the men, she went to the police to file a report.
