Vice mayor hurt, driver killed in ambush

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan , Philippines  – A vice mayor and his two aides were critically wounded while his driver died in an ambush in Ilocos Norte on Tuesday.

Marcos town Vice Mayor Jessie Ermitanio and his companions were in his Toyota Fortuner (AAR-3215) on their way to visit several barangays when they were waylaid in Barangay Daquioag at around 7 p.m.

The fatality was identified as Lucky Jesrel Rumbaoa, 21.   Ricky Florendo, 32; Edralene Arellano, 26, and Ermitanio were taken to the Doña Josefa Edralin Marcos District Hospital for treatment.

Forty-six bullet shells for an M16 rifle were recovered at the scene. Probers have yet to determine the motive for the attack.
