Ex-NCDA exec charged with sexual harassment
MANILA, Philippines - A former official of the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) was charged by the Office of the Ombudsman for allegedly demanding sexual favors from his aide.
Mateo Lee Jr., former NCDA deputy executive director, was accused before the Sandiganbayan of violating Republic Act 7877 or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995.
Graft investigation and prosecution officer Voltaire Africa said Lee “demanded, requested or required” sexual favors from his aide, who was then working directly under his supervision, on several instances from February 2013 to March 2014 , especially when they were checking in a hotel during out-of-town trips.
Lee also allegedly used to send flowers, food and messages of endearment to his aide despite her repeated protests.
The ombudsman said Lee even followed the aide to her home and used to ask her family, relatives and friends about her.
The ombudsman said “the sexual demand, request or requirement resulted in an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment” to Lee’s subordinate.
Lee is not required to post bail for the alleged offense.
