Hagedorn indicted over SALN violations

MANILA, Philippines - Former Puerto Princesa City mayor Edward Hagedorn is facing charges for misdeclaring his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs).

Nine counts of graft, nine for perjury and nine for violation of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees were filed before the Sandiganbayan against Hagedorn last week, the Office of the Ombudsman announced yesterday.

Hagedorn allegedly failed to declare ownership of around 60 properties, among them residential buildings, agricultural land, vehicles and business ventures, including the Puerto Princesa Broadcasting Corp., of which he is said to be a board member, stockholder and chairman of the executive committee.

The ombudsman said Hagedorn failed to “truthfully and accurately declare” his properties and business interests in his SALN from 2004 to 2012.

The Sandiganbayan said it would evaluate the complaints to determine if it would proceed with the trial and issue warrants of arrest.
