MANILA, Philippines - Fourteen more persons were arrested yesterday as the police continued its heightened campaign against illegal gambling in Luzon.
Senior Superintendent Arthur Bisnar, Cavite police director, said four alleged collectors of jueteng were collared in the cities of Bacoor and Dasmariñas in Cavite and five in Batangas.
Among those arrested were Benjamin Lazaro, Jovan Montablan, Regiliton Nista, Jojo Camatigue and Jomar Resitas.
Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal Quezon) police spokesperson, said they are reviewing the list of suspected gambling lords as well as their protectors.
In Kalinga, five persons were arrested during a raid on an alleged gambling den in Barangay Bulanao in Tabuk City.
Two sets of mahjong tiles, a folding table and P1,300 in cash were reportedly recovered from Mely Lastimosa, 53; Carmelita Valdez, 39; government employee Peter Ticangan, 58; Irene Tallion, 38, and Anabel Lacambra, 56. The owner of the alleged gambling den was not immediately identified.
President Duterte earlier issued Executive Order 13 directing the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies to go after gambling syndicates.
