NBI to form TF vs ‘rent-tangay’ scam
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered yesterday the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to form a task force to probe the “rent-tangay” scam.
Car owners who were victimized by the suspects asked the DOJ to order the Bureau of Immigration to issue a lookout order against Rafaela Anunciacion, Tychicus Historillo Nambio and Lea Constantino Rosales.
Nambio was earlier arrested in Biñan, Laguna.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II ordered the NBI to spearhead the filing of cases against the suspects.
He said the suspects enticed car owners to rent out their cars from P35,000 to P45,000 a month. Once the owners agreed, their vehicles would never be returned to them.
The car rental scam has victimized some 500 people, the NBI said.
Aguirre directed the NBI to submit a report within 15 days.
