Investment scam suspect falls

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  A woman allegedly involved in a pyramiding scam was arrested in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Thursday.

A team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group caught Rhodora Comedes at a restaurant in Gets Hotel at around 9 p.m., said Superintendent Roque Merdegia, who heads the CIDG’s Anti-Transnational Crime Unit.

Merdegia, in a text message, said Comedes has a pending arrest warrant from a court in La Trinidad, Benguet for large-scale estafa.

Police said Comedes reportedly duped several people in Baguio City and other parts of Luzon in an investment scheme she started in 2013. She reportedly enticed people to invest in foreign exchange trading.

Comedes and an accomplice, a certain Fianza, allegedly accumulated millions of pesos in cash from their victims.

Merdegia urged persons who may have been victimized by Comedes to immediately file a complaint.
