MANILA, Philippines – Former Isabela governor Maria Gracia Padaca reportedly lost nearly P150,000 in cash to her helper who was arrested in Quezon City on Tuesday.
James Alba, 27, was apprehended at his friend’s house in Barangay Bagbag after an informant tipped off police on his whereabouts.
Alba, who was reportedly a trusted helper of Padaca, had access to the former governor’s ATM card.
The suspect went into hiding after stealing $100 from Padaca’s nephew at her house in Barangay Greater Lagro on Sunday.
Padaca searched Alba’s room where withdrawal slips amounting to P143,000 were kept, prompting her to report the incident to police.
Alba is being held at the Quezon City police detention cell on charges of qualified theft.
