Cop killed in gun accident

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman died when his colleague’s service firearm went off as it was being unloaded in the Smokey Mountain community precinct in Tondo, Manila yesterday morning.

Police Officer 1 Dennis Kias, 31, was unloading bullets from his Glock .38 caliber pistol when it went off and hit the precinct’s concrete wall at around 9:30 a.m.

Probers believe the bullet ricocheted and hit the chest of Police Officer 1 Helrey Estares, who died two hours later at the Tondo Medical Center.

The Manila Police District has placed Kias under investigation.
