MANILA, Philippines - With the construction of housing projects for victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda almost complete, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has proposed a lower budget for the National Housing Authority (NHA) next year.
The DBM sought a P12.64- billion budget for the NHA in 2017. The amount is almost P18 billion lower than this year’s P30.48 billion.
More than P25.6 billion of the NHA budget this year is allocated for housing assistance programs for Yolanda victims.
In next year’s budget, only P1.3 billion is allocated for Yolanda-related projects, specifically the construction of community facilities in housing projects.
The government will allocate P72 million for a village resettlement project for calamity victims, P1.15 billion for community facilities in existing relocation sites and P8.75 billion for a resettlement program for those affected by a Supreme Court ruling to clear the Manila Bay area.
