MANILA, Philippines - Tropical Storm Enteng has left the Philippine area of responsibility, but rains are still expected over some parts of Luzon this weekend due to the southwest monsoon, the state-run weather bureau said yesterday.
Enteng – the fifth tropical cyclone to enter the country this year – was expected to intensify into a typhoon as it moved toward the southwestern portion of Japan.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Enteng is not expected to affect any part of the country.
PAGASA said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms would persist over Ilocos, Apayao and the islands of Batanes and Babuyan due to the southwest monsoon.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
Pagasa said the southwest monsoon is expected to continue until the first half of October.
The agency warned the public against “near to above normal” rainfall in most parts of the country until February next year due to La Niña.
PAGASA said there is a 60 percent chance of La Niña this month.
