DAVAO CITY — Davao City Councilor Bernard Al-ag will be acting mayor after elected Mayor Sara Duterte and Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte each filed for a leave.
In an interview, Al-ag said that he received the memorandum for his appointment late Tuesday afternoon.
"The vice mayor didn't say any reasons for his leave but he and the mayor will be back on duty on July 22," he said.
On Thursday, the City Council will meet with different guests including the Habitat International Group, who according to Al-ag, has expressed interest in putting up a housing program for indigenous people.
Officials from different local government units in the country are also set to meet with Al-ag to personally inquire about the city's peace and order programs and how it was implemented.
"Cavite City for one will be here to visit the 911 Office. They will be here to look at what we are doing so they could replicate it in their LGU," Al-ag added.
Al-ag has earned the highest percentage of votes from the last election while Agriculture and Food Committee head Councilor Marissa Abella was second on the list.
Abella will cover all the administrative work for the vice mayor until July 22.
