2 dead in Agusan gun attack

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Two persons died and three others were wounded when unidentified men opened fire at the house of a barangay chairman in Santiago town in Agusan del Norte before dawn yesterday.

Senior Inspector Tito Gerado, Santiago police chief, identified the fatalities as Mario Garrido, 38, and Sherwin Generalao, 29, both residents of Barangay Jagupit.

Romy Garrido, 42; Rudy Morta, 26; and Rudy Nuevo, 28, were injured.

The victims were supporters of village chief Gerry Mabras, who is running for councilor.

Initial investigation showed the victims were resting in Mabras’ house after a campaign sortie when they were attacked. Mabras was unhurt.
