Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

MANGALDAN, Pangasinan, Philippines – At least 31 participants at a youth camp were hospitalized after eating a meal of noodles, kaldereta (meat stew), fried chicken and lechon (roast pig) on Wednesday.

Ophelia Rivera, Mangaldan health officer, told Bombo Radyo Dagupan yesterday that the victims complained of stomach ache, dizziness, vomiting and diarrhea and were brought to the town’s rural health unit and the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital.

The victims were participants of the Archdiocesan Youth Day Camp held in Barangay Salay.

Rivera said rectal swab samples taken from the victims were brought to the regional center of the Department of Health to determine what caused the suspected food poisoning.

She advised the public to ensure cleanliness when preparing and serving food.
