CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines, – Government troops overran a New People’s Army (NPA) camp in Northern Samar, an official said yesterday.

Soldiers belonging to the 20th Infantry Battalion were conducting security patrol in Barangay Catoto-ogan in Las Navas town, when they found the rebel camp, said Capt. Ian Andres Fabellon, 8th Infantry Division public affairs office chief.

Soldiers recovered 10 bunkers, four observation posts, an improvised explosive device, five blasting caps, bullet shells for an AK47 rifle, personal belongings and food items.

An NPA camp seized in Calbiga town in Samar last year  had 30 makeshift huts, two kitchens and three mess halls. Various high-powered firearms, landmines and a generator set were among those recovered at the scene.
