Thousands watch Misamis Lenten play

MISAMIS ORIENTAL, Philippines – More than 5,000 devotees, pilgrims and tourists flocked to the town of Medina in this province to watch a play depicting the passion, trial, crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ on Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

Now on its sixth year, Hinuklog 2016 is an annual Lenten tradition street play staged at the town plaza by at least 300 actors and crewmembers composed of local parishioners.

Earlier, Mayor Ken Nino Uyguangco told The STAR that the Hinuklog 2016 was meant to draw foreign and local tourists, and investors to help boost the town’s economic growth.

Among those who watched the event were devotees from Albay, Bohol, Butuan, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, General Santos, Surigao and the cities of Manila and Ozamiz.
