The Philippine Star

STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija, Philippines – Three persons, including a pregnant woman, were killed when a sport utility vehicle hit their tricycle along the highway here on Tuesday.

Mary Jane Garcia, 38; her daughter Juvy Ann, 14, and tricycle driver Mark Anthony Gabriel, 22, suffered head injuries and died at the scene, said Senior Superintendent Manuel Cornel, Nueva Ecija police director.

Police Officer 4 Jun Adalem said a Mitsubishi Montero driven by Army Capt. Jose Reyes Jr. struck the tricycle. Reyes surrendered to responding policemen.

Meanwhile, a truck helper died and 14 others were injured in an accident in Nasugbu, Batangas yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo Jr., Batangas police director, said the fatality was identified only as a certain Arnel.

Investigation showed a truck loaded with scrap metal was on its way to Calaca town when the driver lost control of the wheel and hit a passenger bus and a parked jeepney before it rammed at least four houses and a tree.

The wounded – 12 passengers of the bus and jeepney and two bystanders – were brought to the Tagaytay Medical Center, Korean Friendship Hospital and Apacible Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The accident snarled traffic along the Nasugbu-Tagaytay highway.
