Davao police exec dismissed for lying about master’s degree
MANILA, Philippines - A police official has been dismissed for claiming that he has a master’s degree.
Senior Superintendent Akmad Mamalinta, Davao Police Regional Office deputy director, was found administratively liable for serious dishonesty for declaring in his personal data sheet (PDS) that he obtained a master’s degree from the Philippine Christian University (PCU).
Ombudsman probers said certificates from the Civil Service Commission and PCU disputed Mamalinta’s claims.
“In accomplishing and filing a PDS for purposes of promotion, all applicants have the legal obligation to disclose the truth of the data required, especially their qualifications,” Ombudsman Conchita Carpio- Morales said.
“Mamalinta’s act of concealing the truth and deliberately asserting falsehoods in more than one entry in his PDS clearly exhibits his moral depravity, lack of integrity and predisposition to conceal the truth not only from his office but from the public in general,” Morales said.
The ombudsman also ordered Mamalinta’s perpetual disqualification from public office, the cancellation of his eligibility and forfeiture of his retirement benefits.
