Guards foil drug suspects’ attempt to bolt South Cotabato jail

John Unson - Philstar.com

KORONADAL CITY, Philippines - Alert jail guards foiled another attempt before dawn Tuesday by two detained drug peddlers to bolt from their cell in South Cotabato’s provincial jail here.

Inmates Ryan Paquirda and Jonathan Campong were caught past 2 a.m. Tuesday trying to crawl out of the window of their cell, where they had tied ropes they were to use to rappel down the ground.

It was the second time the duo, both charged with violation of the Philippine Dangerous Drugs Act, had tried to escape from the South Cotabato provincial jail here.

Responding jail guards managed to immediately subdue Paquirda and Campong and clamp them down in another detention cell.

Provincial jail warden Juan Lanzaderas said he will have their new cell guarded tightly by his subordinates-guards.
