Basilan prison escapees arrested after a year on the run

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A fugitive, who bolted out of Basilan Provincial Jail, together with a member of the Abu Sayyaf and six other detainees were recaptured in Maluso town after almost a year of hiding.

Maluso Police Station identified the captured fugitive as Benhar Montong Ibrahim, 32, serving jail sentence for cattle rustling.

Ibrahim was captured by the Maluso police and 5th Maneuvering platoon of the Basilan Provincial Police Safety Company (PPSC) Wednesday 9:30 a.m. in Samal Village, Maluso.

Ibrahim and other detainees escaped from the Basilan Provincial Jail in Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City while awaiting trial on Jan. 27, 2015.
