Businessman, daughter die in Isabela mishap

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A businessman and his eight-year-old daughter died after their motorcycle collided with a car in Cabatuan, Isabela on Sunday.

Johnny Boy Lamorena, 35, and his daughter Danica died at the scene, while his wife Jocelyn, 35, was taken to a hospital in Cauayan City, according to Cabatuan police chief Senior Inspector Noriel Lacangan.

Reports said the Lamorenas were traveling in Barangay Sampaloc when they collided with a Honda Civic (TKA-760) driven by Joseph Daga, 26.

The victims were thrown from their motorcycle.

Responding police officers arrested Daga after the incident.

Meanwhile, in Sorsogon, 30-year-old Francis Labalan and Christopher Inocencio, 21, died in a collision involving two motorcycles in Magallanes town on Saturday.

The victims were declared dead on arrival at the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital, where Labalan’s wife Donna, 30, was taken for treatment of injuries, along with Jonathan Delumen, 17, and Christopher Ian Benavidez, 18, who were on another motorcycle.

The Labalans were headed for Juban town when they collided with a motorcycle driven by Delumen with Inocencio and Benavidez as passengers.

26 hurt as bus falls off cliff

Twenty-six persons were hospitalized after their bus fell into a ravine in Calauag town in Quezon on Sunday night.

The Mega Bus (AAI 1363) driven by Felicito Gison, 40, was traveling along Mahar-lika Highway when it fell into the ravine in Barangay Bagong Silang at around 11:30 p.m., town police chief Senior Inspector Noel Divino said.

The victims were brought to St. Peter General Hospital and Masaysay Memorial District Hospital in Lopez town for treatment.

Seventeen of them were discharged after receiving treatment.

Gison was held at the municipal police station for investigation.

Family injured as car hits tree

Six members of a family were injured when their vehicle hit a coconut tree in Leon, Iloilo on Sunday afternoon.

Leo Jaranilla, 58, and his relatives Marcelo, 57; Kathleen, 17; Steven, 35; Cheryl, 41, and Chris Lander Clarito, 7, were in a Mitsubishi Delica (XFU-756) when they figured in the accident in Barangay Buca.

The victims were headed home from a sightseeing tour in Barangay Bucari, considered as Iloilo’s summer capital.

Town police chief Inspector Rewel Pablico said Leo admitted to them that he had fallen asleep at the wheel.

The victims were rushed to Aleosan District Hospital and were immediately discharged after receiving treatment, except for Leo, who was transferred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City. – Francis Elevado, Michelle Zoleta, Jennifer Rendon
