MANILA, Philippines - Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Oriental spewed ash again on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported yesterday.
Phivolcs said “a low-energy ash eruption” was recorded at 12:30 p.m.
Ash plumes that reached 100 meters above the summit were observed, the agency said.
Phivolcs’ seismic monitoring network recorded 10 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours.
Alert Level 1 remains hoisted over the volcano, which means that it is currently in a state of unrest.
Phivolcs said hydrothermal processes could generate more minor eruptions.
The agency warned the public against entering the four-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone due to possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or minor ash eruptions.
