MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government has expressed readiness for the city’s celebration of New Year’s Eve with security, fire and rescue personnel now on alert.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano ordered that all the concerned agencies be placed on alert to ensure the safety of everyone during the New Year revelry.

As part of the preparations, Cayetano has directed the Taguig City Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection-Taguig, Taguig Rescue and the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital (TPDH) to be ready to respond.

Cayetano has also assured that all local policemen, firemen, medical and rescue personnel are equipped and ready to respond to any emergency.

“The safety of our residents comes first in times like this. Our city government is making sure that we are ready to take action when the need arises. We also ensure that we have enough number of personnel to attend to the needs of the public, whether rescue or medical assistance,” she said.

According to Cayetano, aside from medical supplies and equipment, city ambulances will also ready for deployment in cases of emergencies. Cayetano also ordered the city’s 24-hour health centers to be on standby to receive patients with injuries caused by the New Year’s Eve revelry.

At present, there are three Super Health Centers operating in the barangays of North Signal, Central Bicutan, and Ligid-Tipas open 24/7.

Cayetano also requested the Taguig City Police Station to strengthen the campaign against indiscriminate firing in line with the directives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

According to Taguig Police chief, Senior Superintendent Arthur Felix Asis, there are no cases of stray bullet injuries or indiscriminate firing incidents reported in the city so far. However, the city’s police, he said, would still continue with their patrols and checkpoints.

Asis added that the confiscation of illegal firecrackers in the city will also be intensified as New Year’s Eve draws near.

Meanwhile, the Taguig Fire Department has reminded city residents on the danger of fire and injuries from using illegal firecrackers.
