Magnitude 5.2 quake strikes Surigao del Norte
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Sunday morning reported a magnitude 5.2 earthquake that struck the province of Surigao del Norte.
The quake occurred at 6:11 a.m. with epicenter traced 30 kilometers northeast of San Isidro, Surigao del Norte.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said residents of San Isidro, Burgos and Santa Monica, Surigao del Norte felt the tremor at Intensity 4 while Surigao City had Intensity 3 and Loreto, Dinagat Province, Mainit and Soccoro, Surigao Del Norte had Intensity 2.
The quake recorded had a depth of focus of 60 kilometers and had no casualty or recorded aftershocks.
Phivolcs said aside from the magnitude 5.2 earthquake, there are nine other mild quakes that occurred on Sunday. These are in Bolinao, Pangasinan; Baras, Catanduanes; Palauig, Zambales; Dolores, Eastern Samar; Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental and Looc, Occidental Mindoro.
All the earthquakes recorded were tectonic in origin.
