ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Two elderly men died after they were trapped in a fire that destroyed their homes in this city on Friday night.

The remains of Jesus Madraga, 80, and Miguel Bacacho, 70, were found at their homes in Torres Subdivision in Barangay Talon-Talon, according to village chief Teodyver Arquiza.

Authorities said the fire started at around 10:55 p.m. in the kitchen of Madraga’s house.

The flames quickly spread and destroyed Rickey Baldemor’s house, where Bacacho was staying.

City fire marshal Senior Superintendent Dominador Zabala Jr. said the fire reached second alarm before it was declared under control.
