MANILA, Philippines – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon (Calabarzon) regional director was shot in front of his office in Calamba City, Laguna on Monday morning.
Radio reports said DILG Region IV-A chief, Renato Brion is now in critical condition after the shooting incident which occurred around 7 to 7:30 a.m.
Brion reportedly alighted from his vehicle in Barangay Parian when an unidentified gunman shot him and fled in an unknown direction.
The victim was then immediately brought to Calamba Medical Center and is now receiving treatment.
Authorities said the Calamba Police is now conducting a dragnet operation to catch Brion’s assailant.
Brion, who hails from San Pablo City, Laguna and is a resident of New Manila Quezon City, took charge of DILG IV-A Calabarzon as a regional director on May 21, 2015.
Prior to his current post, Brion served as DILG National Capital Region’s regional director.
Brion was one of the respondents in the contempt case against dismissed Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay along with Metro Manila police chief Director Carmelo Valmoria, Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Henry Ranola and SPD deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Elmer Jamias when they served the suspension order last March.
