Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Five suspected communist insurgents surrendered following continuous military offensives in Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday, security officials said.

The five brought their firearms with them when they gave themselves up to Lt. Col. Alvin Luzon, chief of the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion, at Camp Sabido in the municipality of Guipps, according to Maj. Felimon Tan Jr., spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command.

Luzon said the rebels told him they surrendered because of the continuous police and military operations in Lapuyan town.
