Council approves uniform color for metro footbridges

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Council on Wednesday approved a resolution that standardizes the color of footbridges around the metro.

The council, composed of 17 mayors and is the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), agreed to paint all footbridges with earth color even when each is constructed by respective local government units or by the national government.

MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez said some footbridges follow the color of political affiliations of mayors even as the funds used for the construction belong to the government.

Jimenez said Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson recommended the use of a standard color for all footbridges constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways and the MMDA to avoid political and election-related issues.

She said there are more than 100 footbridges in Metro Manila that are painted with different colors.
