PRO-1 gets 40 patrol jeeps
CAMP FLORENDO, La Union, Philippines – The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) here received 40 patrol jeeps to boost the anti-crime campaign in Ilocos Norte and La Union.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento turned over the Mahindra patrol jeeps to PRO-1 Chief Superintendent Ericson Velasquez on Friday.
Ilocos Norte got 21 jeeps while La Union received 19.
Sarmiento said the Ilocos Norte and La Union police could now enhance crime response and better implement Operation Lambat-Sibat, an anti-crime campaign the Philippine National Police said is effective in Metro Manila.
Sarmiento announced the additional procurement of 16,000 firearms amounting to P2.1 billion for the local police.
“Aside from vehicles, we will also provide communications equipment amounting to more than P800 million and protective vests for our policemen,” he said.
Velasquez thanked Sarmiento for the patrol jeeps.
The PRO-1 received a total of 116 Mahindra patrol jeeps, including those distributed to Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur.
