NPA rebels attack lumad village; 1 hurt
IMPASUG-ONG, Bukidnon, Philippines – A member of a lumad tribe was wounded when suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels attacked a village in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon Monday night, the military reported on Thursday.
Angelo Yanggahon of the Umayamnon tribe sustained a gunshot wound in the arm, said Capt. Norman Tagros, spokesman for the Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion.
Tagros said the victims remained confined at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital yesterday.
He said tribal members evacuated their homes for fear of more NPA attacks.
Lt. Col. Lennon Babilonia, commanding officer of the 8th IB, accused the NPA rebels of committing atrocities against tribal communities residing between the borders of Bukidnon and Agusan del Sur.
“We assure our people, especially our lumad brothers, that the military will bring the perpetrators of these atrocities to justice while continuing the service to secure the tribal communities,” Babilonia said.
