ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A 70-year-old Korean died while his wife was injured after they were hit by a passenger jeepney in La Paz district here on Sunday.

Kwon Young Kwui and Young Ae Lee had just stepped out of the St. Clement’s Redemptorist Church on Luna street in Barangay Bantod when they figured in the accident, according to the city traffic investigation and enforcement office.

Kwon died while undergoing treatment at St. Paul’s Hospital. Young suffered head and leg injuries.

The couple had been living in Jordan, Guimaras since 2011.

City traffic investigation and enforcement unit chief Superintendent Alexander Rosales said jeepney driver Eddie Demavivas, 34, surrendered to the La Paz police station.

Rosales said Demavivas would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries.
