Slain Marawi cop’s kin want ‘killers’ tried in Manila

COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Relatives of the slain Marawi police chief in Lanao del Sur want the suspects prosecuted in Metro Manila to ensure the safety of witnesses, officials said yesterday.

Superintendent Al Abner Wahab Santos was shot dead as he was driving toward his office in Marawi City on Oct. 17.

Sources from the office of Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. confirmed there have been efforts to endorse the case to a Manila court.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) had tagged two police officers, Senior Police Officer 2 Naga Racman Mamacol and Senior Police Officer 1 Salic Macabuat, as among Santos’ killers.

Sources said Mamacol and Macabuat have links to a drug syndicate that Santos dismantled when he assumed the city police’s top post about two months before the ambush.

The CIDG has filed criminal charges against the two officers and their accomplices before a court in Marawi City.
