Red Cross donates houses, livelihood to Aklan Yolanda victims
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has built homes for 8,885 families and provided livelihood assistance to 6,671 victims of Typhoon Yolanda in Aklan.
PRC chairman Richard Gordon recently turned over the newly built houses and livelihood assistance in 13 barangays in New Washington town.
The PRC also rehabilitated the town’s water and sanitation facilities, six health centers and 18 classrooms.
“No longer is the (PRC) just a provider of first aid and assistance in the midst of natural calamities and disasters as it has become a partner in providing basic services and continuing assistance in giving back not only what the people have lost but more importantly helping them get back their lives and dignity,” Gordon said.
The PRC also distributed non-food items, including plastic mats, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets and hygiene and shelter kits to 19,217 families in Aklan.
