Bank loses P6.7 M to robbers

Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Four armed men took some P6.7 million in cash and checks from a bank in Surigao City, Surigao del Sur yesterday morning.

The armed men arrived in separate motorcycles at the United Coconut Planters’ Bank (UCPB) on San Nicolas-Diez street at past 9 a.m. and disarmed one of the bank’s security guards, a report from the Police Regional Office 13 said.

At gunpoint, the robbers ordered the security guard, identified as Efren Doquila, to get inside the bank as one of the suspects disarmed another guard Lancelot Balaba.

Two of the gunmen reportedly took the cash and checks from the tellers’ booth and placed it in a bag before fleeing.

Bank manager Young Alaniel Bumanglag told investigators the money and checks had just been deposited by a power cooperative.
