Rebels torch cargo truck

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Ten suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas torched a truck loaded with logs in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur on Thursday.
Police are eyeing extortion as the motive for the attack, which occurred in Barangay Sta. Juana.
Investigators said prior to the attack, the rebels demanded revolutionary tax from truck owner David Tan, who refused to pay.
Authorities estimated the damage at P1.7 million.
