MANILA, Philippines - Eleven Marines were injured in a vehicular accident in Maluso, Basilan last Wednesday, a military official said.

Cpt. Roy Trinidad, spokesman of the Armed Forces Joint Task Force Zambasulta, said the mishap happened at 2:20 p.m. in Barangay Abong Abong and involved members of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 11.

An M35 truck carrying the Marines was traversing the Basilan circumferential road when it fell into a deep canal. The wounded soldiers were airlifted to Zamboanga City for medical treatment.

The military has yet to release the identities of the soldiers as of Thursday afternoon.

Trinidad said nine of the 11 Marines sustained slight injuries while two had to undergo x-ray tests. He said the driver probably lost control of the vehicle. Authorities are now investigating the incident.
